Situated in the heart of the Oisans region, the commune is made up of 11 hamlets on the slopes of the 2176 m-high Signal de l'Homme.
À propos : Auris en Oisans Town Hall
The Commune d'Auris enjoys exceptional sunshine thanks to its south-facing position and a remarkable view of the Girose glacier and the mythical Meije and Râteau peaks.
Until the end of the 19th century, the only access was via the steep "chemin de la cheminée", accessible only on foot. In 1902, the completion of the "La Roche" carriage road, passing through the village of La Garde, finally opened up the village. In the 1930s, the construction of the Chambon dam brought a clear improvement in living conditions. The construction of the Freney road in the 60s, followed by the Orgières ski resort in the 70s, led to a boom in tourism.
Today, Auris-en-Oisans offers the conviviality and safety of a family resort on a human scale, with the added advantage of being linked by chairlift to Alpe d'Huez, making it part of its large ski area. In its hamlets, the commune has preserved the charm of the traditional atmosphere of yesteryear.
