À propos : Solar Eclipse and Evening Entertainment

An exceptional evening at the summit of Les Sûres to watch the solar eclipse:

On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, enjoy a unique experience in Auris-en-Oisans by heading to the summit of Les Sûres (1,860 m) for an evening dedicated to observing the solar eclipse and exploring the night sky and nocturnal wildlife.

As a special treat, take the last gondola ride starting at 5:30 p.m., enjoy a complimentary drink (included with your event ticket), and then join astronomer Michel Roux for a guided observation of the eclipse. Throughout the evening, you’ll learn about the different phases of the eclipse and the unique features of the mountain sky.

The event will continue with a tour exploring nocturnal wildlife, led by Julie Weller, to help you better understand the species that come out at nightfall.

The eclipse will begin at 7:28 p.m. and reach its peak (94% in the Alps) at 8:22 p.m., coinciding with the sun’s disappearance behind the mountains. Part of the phenomenon will not be fully visible for a few minutes.

At the end of the observation, a guided torchlight descent—just like in winter—will allow you to make your way back down in a friendly atmosphere, punctuated by a guided stargazing session led by the astronomer.

The Sol&Monta restaurant at the summit of Les Sûres will offer food on site (hot dogs, appetizer platters, blueberry tarts, ice cream, and waffles), but you’re also welcome to bring your own picnic.

Pre-registration is required at the tourist office (in person, by phone, or by email)—payment is due on the day of the event at the office. The event will take place only if weather conditions are favorable.

Please note: Due to the mountainous terrain, the sun will disappear behind the mountains a few minutes before the eclipse reaches its peak. The event remains subject to favorable weather conditions. To observe the sun safely, wearing special eclipse glasses is essential. Sunglasses are not suitable for viewing the eclipse.
Eclipse glasses are available for purchase at the “Le comptoir de Dorine” newsstand and also at the “Sol&Monta” restaurant.
If you do not have certified eclipse glasses, opt for indirect viewing (projecting the image of the Sun or observing its shadow).
