ITINERARY
You’ll start on a narrow trail running along a ridge, offering beautiful views of the Écrins Massif, from the Grand Pic de la Meije to the Roche de la Muzelle. The chapel and its lookout point await you just below the trail.
This route does not pass through any alpine pastures or cross paths with any herds.
Accueil : Be sure to bring plenty of water, shoes suitable for walking, a hat or cap, and sunscreen.
History, culture and heritage
Legend has it that Count Saint Géraud of Aurillac passed through Auris-en-Oisans during one of his many pilgrimages to Rome.
This chapel, which dates back to the year 890, is said to have been built in his honor.
Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
The trailhead is located behind the Odalys hotel complex, marked by a sign pointing toward the Col de Cluy. You’ll start on a narrow trail that, after the first turn, leads you to another sign, where you’ll follow the direction toward the Col de Cluy. Continue along this same trail, which runs along the mountainside, until you reach the Saint-Géraud Chapel.
This route does not pass through any alpine pastures or near any herds.
Tips
Keep in mind: part of the trail is exposed. You may be caught off guard by the sun, wind, or rain. Be sure to check the weather forecast before setting out on your hike.
